  5. Congratulations on behalf of Pie Data UK Ltd for your fantastic efforts. We congratulate GHU for the review and renewing the planning permission for the building a local community centre for Hindu Community, Culture and Faith.

We wish GHU success and look forward for the opening date.

  6. Many congratulations! Almighty himself has blessed this project and the fact that the plan has been approved is a sign from GOD that he is pleased with this project and we have His full support. Now whatever else we need to do will happen also with HIS Blessings. I am sure of this.

Keep up the spirits and good work that the committee is doing and GOD BLESS!

  7. Well Done to everyone who helped to make it happen yesterday, with the planning application!

  8. Finally JUSTICE has been served to the peaceful community of Crawley!!!

  9. I send Happy New Year Greetings to GHU members and the wider Hindu Community of Crawley, I wish that 2009 bring you all the rewards you have so patiently worked and waited for,.

  10. I read with interest Councillor Crow's comments on this website, especially when the minutes of the meeting show that Bob Lanzer actually made comments in the meeting which were in OBJECTION to the planning application.

It just gos to prove that what people say in front of you & what they actually do, behind your back may not always be the same.

The minutes also show that ALL of the those who voted on the application did so against it-Despite the recommendations of the planning officers.

We therefore have a very steep hill to climb on the 5/1/2009!

  11. Jai Shree Krishna - I would like to invite you with your family to a special chanting of 108 HANUMAN CHALISA from 09.00 hr at Spencer Road Mandir to recive blessings for our Planning Permission to get approved by Crawley Borough Council on the following Monday 5th January.

The Planning Meeting will be held at Crawley Town Hall at 7 p.m.

Please do attend these very crutial meetings to show your support.

  12. I am appalled to learn the Crawley Borough Council Planning Committee has turned down SMCC planning application on 3 November 2008. The Committee has acted most irresponsibly. They have been found wanting and failing on the following key points:

    1) Failing to not invite GHU to the meeting

    2) Failing to listen to the recommendation to approve the application made by the professionals and their own Planning Department Officers.

    3) Failing to follow their own guidelines on the number of car park spaces required for SMCC and asking to build 250 spaces instead of 99 that their own guidelines calls for and as recommended to GHU by the Council Planning Department Officers.

    4) Failing to follow the advice of the professionals and Environment Agency on flood risk and drainage issues. The EA, drainage professionals and officers Planning Department officers provided all relevant information on flood risk and drainage that very clearly and categorically stated that GHU in the SMCC had design included all the required advice and recommendations.

    5) Failing to read the letter sent to the Planning Department Officers on 3 November by EA that stated “We have no objections to the design of the overall drainage strategy...”

GHU and its 4500 members should not stand by and let this unreasonable and unjustified decision to stand. I will take action and I want all the members and fair minded people to do so as well.

  13. I am disappointed that the Temple has met with difficulties in the planning process but I am very optimistic that these difficulties will be overcome.

Both Cllr Bob Lanzer as the Leader of Crawley Borough Council, and myself as Deputy Leader are very keen to see this project succeed. We recognise that not only will it be an excellent facility for our local Hindu community, it will also be a great asset for Crawley as a whole.

I have felt strongly enough to do an article about it on my website. http://www.duncancrow.blogspot.com/2008/11/i-support-hindu-temple-for-crawley.html

The latest I have heard from our Planning Department is very encouraging and we may well be able to have a revised application heard on the 5th of January.

Ramesh: Thank you for your letter and petition that I have received from you. You will recieve a formal response in due course.

Finally can I say that the issues that led to the decision to refuse the planning application were planning issues and planning issues alone. These can be debated and argued for and against and I have no issue with these views being expressed either way. I do take issue with any suggestion that any Councillor voted on anything other than planning issues and I can not allow such suggestions to go unchallenged. I know every single Councillor at Crawley Borough Council (Conservative, Labour and Liberal Democrat) well enough to know that not a single Councillor would make any decision in a racially motivated way.

  14. First or all let me congratulate the GHU in another successful Diwali and firework show at the Hawth. Staging this event at the Hawth adds a touch of prestige and class to the annual calendar of events and is something a lot of people look forward to. I think it would be a shame to transfer this event away from the Hawth next year and in furture years. The impact the Hawth generates on this event would not be the same held eleswhere and the GHU should consider retaining this event at the Hawth.

Next, I was pleased with the reaction from the stage to events of last week. The decisions taken by those councilors to halt the project of the building of the Mandir was ill thought out and positively discriminatory. How could they, after a single meeting, take such a decision to scrap a project that has taken the GHU several years of careful negotiaitions and compliance with all the rules and regulations of the planning committees before embarking on any of building works?

The message from the stage was good and strong and unanimous and I have no doubt these obstacles put before us will be overcome.

The belief is strong and unwavering and you have our support.

Jai Shree Krishna, Jai Sia Ram,

    Narendra

The Gurjar Hindu Union (GHU) Ltd is 40 years old established minority ethnic led charitable organisation serving Crawley, a town based in the South East of England, near Gatwick Airport.

It is a volunteer led organisation which has established itself as a well run, sustainable organisation. Through prudent financial management and funds raised from the community it serves, GHU owns a building from where it runs a Sanatan Mandir (Temple) and a small community centre.

The needs of the community it serves now demand that GHU move to larger premises and gradually make the step change to employing staff. A suitable site with the requisite planning permission has been identified.

GHU offers range of activities including celebration of all Hindu festivals, daily worship (6 p.m. to 7 p.m.), Elderly Day Care Centre, Gujarati Language Class, Yoga Class, Mental Maths Class, welfare advise and support etc.

GHU offers visits to the Temple and training in Indian way of life and religious appreciation to Schools, Colleges and other institutions.
